Nissan Recall Could Mean Free Engine Replacement for Nearly Half a Million Owners

Here’s what’s going on. Nissan has identified a manufacturing issue with certain 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engines that could lead to engine failure. And we’re not talking about a small batch here — we’re looking at 443,899 vehicles being affected in the U.S. alone. That’s a serious number.

Now, the issue comes down to the engine bearings. Some of these parts might’ve been poorly manufactured, and over time, they could fail. If that happens, the engine could seize up or break down completely — and that’s obviously something nobody wants to experience while driving.
But here’s the part that might surprise you: Nissan isn’t just sweeping this under the rug. They’re taking a targeted approach. If your car is part of the recall, it’ll be brought into a dealership for inspection. Technicians will drop the oil pan and check for any signs of metal debris in the oil. If they find anything concerning, Nissan will replace the entire engine — yes, brand new engine, completely free of charge. If everything looks clean, you’ll just get a fresh oil change and be back on the road.
It’s also worth noting that depending on whether you have the 1.5L or 2.0L engine, there are slightly different procedures. The 1.5L engines get a new sump gasket and a reprogrammed engine control module on top of the oil change, while the 2.0L engines get inspected and topped up with fresh oil.
This is a pretty smart and proactive move from Nissan. Instead of waiting for failures to happen, they’re stepping in early and taking responsibility — which, let’s be honest, isn’t always the case in the automotive world. They actually dodged an even larger recall earlier this year related to suspension issues, thanks in part to their preemptive repair strategies.
