Orioles Outslug Braves in Extras as Laureano Lifts Baltimore in Thrilling Win
What a wild night it was in Atlanta as the Baltimore Orioles pulled off a dramatic 9-6 extra-inning win over the Braves, and if you didn’t stay up to watch it, you missed a rollercoaster. This game had everything—power hitting, clutch performances, and a bullpen that hung just tough enough to get the job done. The Orioles, who came into the series looking to build momentum, are now one win away from sweeping a battered Braves squad.
It all came down to the 10th inning. Ramón Laureano stepped up and delivered the go-ahead RBI double down the third-base line off Braves reliever Rafael Montero. That shot brought Jordan Westburg home from third, giving Baltimore the edge at a crucial moment. Jacob Stallings followed it up with a two-run double, sealing the three-run rally that proved to be the difference. Stallings, by the way, was only in the game because starting catcher Gary Sánchez exited in the fifth with right knee pain—talk about seizing the moment.

Earlier in the game, it was bombs away for the Orioles. Tyler O’Neill got the party started with a solo homer in the third inning, quickly followed by a two-run blast from Westburg. That third inning was a turning point, as Atlanta’s Aaron Bummer, who started as an opener in his first career start after 374 bullpen appearances, faded quickly after a hot start. Colton Cowser added a two-run homer of his own in the fourth, and suddenly, Baltimore’s offense looked like it had fully woken up.
Atlanta had its own share of fireworks—Austin Riley launched a two-run homer in the first, and Matt Olson chipped in with three hits and two RBIs, including a solo home run. But despite scoring six runs, the Braves couldn’t hold off the late charge from the Orioles, and they now fall to 28-5 when scoring five or more runs.
Let’s not overlook the O’s bullpen either. Félix Bautista pitched a clean ninth to keep things level and earn the win, while Yennier Cano handled the pressure in the 10th, notching his first save of the season. For a team missing multiple catchers—including All-Star Adley Rutschman—the Orioles found a way to overcome adversity yet again.
With the win, Baltimore has now taken the first two games of the three-game set and looks poised for a sweep on Sunday morning. Grant Holmes gets the ball for the Braves while the Orioles send out lefty Trevor Rogers. One thing’s for sure—this Orioles squad may be bruised, but they are battling every inning. That resilience was on full display in Atlanta tonight.
