Palmeiras Take the Lead but Falter Again in Frustrating Draw with Mirassol

Palmeiras fans were hoping for a turning point last night, but instead, they were left with more questions and a familiar feeling of frustration. At Allianz Parque, under the lights and in front of their passionate home crowd, Palmeiras started off strong, took the lead, and then somehow let it all slip away as they drew 1-1 with Mirassol.

It’s a result that stings—not just because of the dropped points, but because it extends Verdão’s winless run at home in the 2025 Brasileirão. That’s now two losses (against Bahia and Flamengo) and two draws (Botafogo and now Mirassol) at Allianz, a stadium that’s supposed to be a fortress. The only recent wins for Abel Ferreira’s men came at Arena Barueri, away from their loyal fans.

The game itself? It started cautiously. Possession was evenly split in the first half, but Palmeiras showed more intent and created better chances. Felipe Anderson, Richard Ríos, and Vitor Roque all had moments where they looked close to breaking through, but it was Mirassol’s goalkeeper Walter who stood tall and kept things goalless until the break.

Then, finally, in the 54th minute, Palmeiras found their moment. Ríos slipped a clever pass to Raphael Veiga, who flicked it brilliantly to Facundo Torres. One touch later, the ball was in the net and Allianz erupted. It felt like the momentum had shifted, and that Palmeiras were on their way to a long-awaited home win.

But the story didn’t end there. Mirassol, calm and organized, struck back in the 71st minute from a set piece. Neto Moura delivered the assist, and debutant Chico da Costa slotted it home. That was all it took to quiet the crowd and flip the mood.

Despite the introduction of new signing Ramón Sosa and a late flurry of attacks, Palmeiras couldn’t restore their lead. The energy dropped, the chances dried up, and the fans voiced their discontent at the final whistle.

Mirassol, to their credit, remained unbeaten against the São Paulo giants this season. They're now sitting mid-table but playing with the confidence and structure of a team that doesn’t fear the league’s biggest names.

Palmeiras, meanwhile, are stuck at 23 points with two games in hand, but their G-6 status is now under serious threat. With big names like Estêvão gone, Paulinho out for the season, and Ríos attracting European interest, the club faces internal challenges as well.

Next up? Atlético at home. Another chance to break the curse at Allianz—or another frustrating chapter in an increasingly tense campaign.
