Playboi Carti Dropped From The Weeknd’s BC Place Shows Due to Border Woes

So here’s the latest buzz out of Vancouver that’s got music fans talking. If you were hyped to see Playboi Carti open for The Weeknd at BC Place, you’re in for a bit of a letdown—because he’s officially off the bill for the Canadian leg of the tour. Yup, Playboi Carti, the Atlanta-based rapper known for his experimental sound and wild stage energy, won’t be joining The Weeknd for any of the shows in Canada, including Vancouver and Edmonton.

According to Live Nation, it all comes down to “border crossing issues.” The announcement dropped on social media, and while it’s definitely disappointing, it’s not entirely surprising. Carti—whose real name is Jordan Carter—has had his fair share of legal trouble over the years. He’s been in the spotlight not just for his music but also for some serious allegations, including felony assault for allegedly choking his pregnant girlfriend, and weapons and drug charges related to an incident involving guns and multiple bags of marijuana. Given that kind of record, crossing into Canada isn’t exactly straightforward.

Carti was originally slated to open for The Weeknd on July 15 and 16 in Vancouver at BC Place and again on July 19 in Edmonton. Now, with him out of the picture, the show will go on with just one opener: Mike Dean. Yes, that Mike Dean—the legendary producer known for working with Kanye West, Travis Scott, and even The Weeknd himself. So while fans might be missing out on Carti’s high-energy chaos, they’ll still be treated to Dean’s moody, synth-heavy performance to set the tone.

Live Nation has confirmed that the show schedule remains unchanged, with the concerts kicking off at 7 p.m. as planned. So if you’ve got tickets, don’t stress—you’ll still get a massive spectacle, just without the Playboi Carti chapter.

This kind of thing does highlight a broader truth, though: touring internationally isn’t always as easy as jumping on a plane. Legal issues, paperwork, and border restrictions can derail even the biggest names in music. Still, The Weeknd’s fans in Vancouver can look forward to a killer night under the lights of BC Place, even if the lineup isn’t exactly what was first promised.
