Plymouth County Fair Shines Spotlight on Tech and Tradition

Hey everyone, have you heard what’s happening at the Plymouth County Fair this year? It’s not just about cotton candy, livestock shows, and carnival rides—though don’t worry, all of that fun is still there. What’s really drawing attention this year is a brand-new exhibit inside the historic Round Barn, and it’s something you’ve got to see.

A new display has been unveiled that dives into the role of technology in agriculture, especially livestock. It’s been designed not only to educate but also to celebrate just how far farming has come. When you walk into the Round Barn, you’re greeted with displays that showcase tools and tech used across different types of livestock—from dairy to poultry to hogs. There’s also a section on soil and water conservation, which reminds us how essential sustainability is in modern farming.

One particularly sweet feature—literally—is the Siouxland Honey Bees exhibit. Fairgoers can get a close-up look at how bees produce honey, which has been fascinating both kids and adults alike. And speaking of kids, there are tons of interactive and educational activities that make this a perfect family stop.

Janelle Johnson, chair of the Le Mars Chamber Ag Committee, shared some highlights. She mentioned how the exhibit includes old tractors that have been lovingly restored—many of them passed down through generations. Some of these displays even include photos showing families who used the tractors decades ago, now proudly standing beside the restored versions. It’s more than nostalgia—it’s a tribute to the agricultural roots that have shaped this community.

And here’s the best part: this exhibit isn’t just a one-and-done thing. It’ll be part of the fair for the next three years, so even if you miss it this time, you’ll have another chance to catch it.

The Plymouth County Fair officially kicked off on July 23 and runs through July 27 in Le Mars. So if you’re anywhere nearby, it’s absolutely worth the trip. It’s a great mix of old and new—tradition meets innovation—and there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

So come for the rides, stay for the bees, and don’t forget to check out the high-tech side of farming that’s shaping our future right in the heart of Iowa.
