Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution Set Revealed with Powerful ex Cards
Hey Trainers, some seriously exciting news just dropped in the Pokémon TCG world—and if you're a fan of Mega Evolutions, you're going to love this. The Pokémon Company has officially announced the upcoming Mega Evolution set, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most thrilling expansions in recent memory. Mark your calendars: this set hits stores on September 26, 2025 , and it’s packed with powerful cards, returning mechanics, and jaw-dropping artwork that fans have been eagerly waiting for.
This set is the first major English-language release focused entirely on Mega Evolution Pokémon since the XY era back in the 2010s. That means we’re getting the return of those iconic Mega forms—complete with a new twist. The headline feature? Mega Evolution Pokémon ex , a new type of card that, when knocked out, gives up to three prize cards . Yeah, that’s game-changing.

We now know nearly all of the ten Mega Pokémon ex cards included in this set. Confirmed with high-quality previews are Mega Venusaur , Gardevoir , Lucario , and Latias . Others, spotted in lower-resolution photos from a Japanese tournament, include Mega Abomasnow , Mawile , Camerupt , and Absol . That’s eight out of ten. Then there’s Mega Kangaskhan , heavily hinted at thanks to its appearance on the set’s packaging. So that leaves just one unconfirmed Mega Evolution Pokémon ex.
If you’re doing the type-matching math, you'll realize we’re missing a Lightning-type Mega Evolution. Only two electric-types exist in that category: Ampharos and Manectric . Most fans—myself included—are betting on Ampharos rounding out the lineup, given its popularity. But let’s be honest, whether it's Ampharos or Manectric, it’s going to spark excitement either way.
The set isn’t just about Pokémon, either. We’re also getting 22 Illustration Rares , 22 ultra rare full-art Pokémon and Trainer cards , and for the first time ever, full-art Items and Stadiums . That’s a big step forward for TCG collectors and competitive players alike. There will also be special illustration rares of both Mega Pokémon ex and Supporters, pushing the creative boundaries of TCG art even further.
And as expected, the Mega Evolution set will be available in a wide variety of product formats—Booster Bundles, Sleeved Boosters, Elite Trainer Boxes, three-pack blisters, Build & Battle kits—you name it.
Whether you're in it for the nostalgia, the competitive edge, or the collector’s chase, the Mega Evolution set is definitely not one to miss. With all 48 known Mega Evolutions likely to be revealed over time through this new series, we’re only scratching the surface of what’s to come.
So, what do you think—is your favorite Mega Evolution making the cut? Keep your eyes peeled, Trainers. September is going to be electrifying.
