Prince Owusu’s Late PK Rescues Point for Montreal in Orlando Standoff
What a night it was in Orlando! CF Montréal, bottom of the Eastern Conference and fighting for every single point, pulled off a gutsy 1-1 draw against Orlando City SC — and it all came down to one man: Prince Owusu.
Now picture this — it’s the 83rd minute in the Florida heat. The game’s almost done. Montreal’s trailing 1-0 after a Martín Ojeda strike in the first half. The stadium's buzzing, the home fans are confident this one’s in the bag. Then, out of nowhere, Prince Owusu makes a driving run into the box and draws a foul from Rodrigo Schlegel. No hesitation from the ref — he points to the spot.
With all eyes on him, Owusu steps up and calmly converts the penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way. It’s 1-1, and Montreal suddenly has life again.

This wasn’t just a goal — it was a statement. Montréal has been struggling all season long, coming into this match with the fewest points in the conference and one of the worst goal differentials in the league. But here, against a strong Orlando squad, they showed resilience, composure, and that refusal to give in.
Ojeda’s goal in the 28th minute had looked like it might seal the deal for the Lions. That low shot from outside the area marked his eighth straight match with a goal contribution — that’s two goals and six assists now — making him one of the most in-form players in MLS right now. But even with that momentum, Orlando couldn’t put the game to bed.
Credit also has to go to Jonathan Sirois, Montreal’s keeper, who came up with a couple of important stops — two saves on the night, and cool under pressure during a chaotic stoppage time. On the other side, Orlando was without their main man in goal, Pedro Gallese, who was out due to yellow card accumulation, as was defender Robin Jansson. Javier Otero stepped in for only his second career start, and while he didn’t have any saves to make, that lack of presence in goal might’ve cost them late.
Let’s not forget the defensive stand at the end — Orlando pushed hard, with Alex Freeman and Nicolás Rodríguez both getting chances blocked in stoppage. The Lions had their moments, but they just couldn’t break through again.
Montreal may still be sitting at the bottom, but performances like this show heart. And for Orlando? That’s now three straight without a win — not the kind of momentum they want mid-season.
In the end, it’s a tale of grit and late drama. One point each, but you could argue Montreal will walk away feeling like they won. Owusu’s calm under pressure, Sirois’ solid hands in goal, and a fighting spirit from start to finish — that’s the kind of energy Montréal will need to climb their way back up.
