Rain Halts Phillies-Padres Clash, Doubleheader Set for July 2

Hey folks, if you were all geared up for some Phillies action tonight, I’ve got a quick update for you—and yeah, it’s the kind we didn’t want. The scheduled game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres on July 1st has officially been postponed due to some pretty nasty weather rolling through the region. That’s right—tonight’s game at Citizens Bank Park won’t be happening, thanks to a NEXT Weather Alert and a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9 p.m. A flash flood watch is also in place, making it simply unsafe to play ball.

But don’t worry—there’s a silver lining. The Phillies have already locked in a makeup date for the missed matchup. It’s happening tomorrow, July 2nd, and it’s going to be a day-night doubleheader. First pitch for Game 1 is still set for 1:05 p.m., and the rescheduled Game 2 will get underway at 6:15 p.m. Gates open at 11:35 a.m. for the afternoon game and at 5:15 p.m. for the nightcap.

Now, if you were holding tickets for tonight’s game, keep them handy—they’ll be valid for tomorrow night’s 6:15 p.m. makeup game. That also applies whether you bought your tickets through the Phillies directly or via SeatGeek or another official resale partner. The Phillies have also confirmed that the much-anticipated Xfinity Fireworks Show will still light up the sky—just after Game 2 wraps up on Wednesday. So even though you’re waiting an extra day, you’re still in for a good time.

One bummer though—the Nemours Children's Health Kids Run the Bases promotion, originally scheduled for the early game, has been canceled due to the doubleheader format. A tough break for the kiddos, but safety first, as always.

It’s all a bit of a shake-up following Monday night’s momentum, where Zack Wheeler absolutely dominated on the mound with 10 strikeouts across eight shutout innings. The Phillies took that opener 4-0, and it also marked Bryce Harper’s return to the lineup after being sidelined for over 20 games with a right wrist injury. Though Harper didn’t tally a hit—going 0-for-2 with a walk—he told reporters his wrist is feeling significantly better than when he landed on the injured list back on June 6.

All in all, it’s a rain delay kind of day, but with a double dose of baseball on deck for July 2, there’s still a lot to look forward to. If you’re planning to attend or need ticket details, hit up phillies.com/postponement for all the info. Stay dry, stay safe, and get ready for some back-to-back Phillies action tomorrow.
