So, something pretty wild happened during the Blue Jays-Orioles doubleheader — the kind of trade story you usually only see in movies.

Right in the middle of the day, during the break between games, the Blue Jays made a surprise bullpen move, acquiring right-hander Seranthony Domínguez from the Orioles. And get this — since both teams were playing each other at Camden Yards, Domínguez didn’t even need to leave the stadium. He literally just walked across the field to join the Blue Jays' dugout before game two.

What makes this even more dramatic is that by the evening, he was already pitching against the Orioles — the team he started the day with. He tossed a scoreless inning and ended it with a strikeout of Baltimore’s rising star Jackson Holliday. Talk about an instant debut.

The trade sent Minor League righty Juaron Watts-Brown, who’s ranked as Toronto’s No. 10 prospect, to Baltimore. He’s been having a breakout season in High-A and Double-A, largely thanks to his devastating slider, and now he’ll join the Orioles’ farm system — conveniently, just across the diamond from his Double-A New Hampshire team that was playing Baltimore’s affiliate.

Domínguez, now 30, has been a high-velocity force this year. His fastball averages nearly 98 mph and he’s racked up 54 strikeouts in 41.2 innings with a 3.24 ERA. The walks are a bit up, but he’s still a guy who can shut down an inning with pure stuff. Toronto manager John Schneider was clearly thrilled, saying the Jays are excited to have him at the back end of the bullpen, especially with Yimi García on the IL.

As for the Orioles, they're falling behind in the AL East, and Domínguez — a pending free agent making $8 million this season — was one of their more valuable trade chips. It’s a sign that they’re pivoting toward the future.

The Blue Jays aren’t stopping here, either. They’re still in talks to land Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley and are looking at a wide range of bullpen arms. Their relief corps has been solid, ranked eighth in ERA, but this recent stretch of losses has made it clear more help is needed.

In a corresponding move, the Jays designated Chad Green for assignment. He’s struggled all season and had given up 14 homers — the most by any reliever this year.

Bottom line: Domínguez adds instant firepower, the Jays are pushing hard for a postseason run, and we’re just getting started with the trade deadline drama.
