Shocking Ambush at Texas ICE Facility Leaves Officer Wounded, 11 Charged

Let me walk you through one of the most alarming incidents we've seen recently—a coordinated, violent ambush outside an ICE detention center in Alvarado, Texas. This wasn’t just a protest gone wrong. This was a calculated attack aimed at luring and potentially killing law enforcement officers. Eleven individuals are now facing serious federal charges, including attempted murder.

It all unfolded late Friday night, around 10:30 p.m., outside the Prairieland Detention Center, roughly 40 miles southwest of Dallas. According to federal authorities, a group of 10 to 12 people dressed in black, military-style clothing approached the facility. They began launching fireworks, spray-painting graffiti like “ICE pig” and “traitor,” and damaging vehicles—all designed to draw ICE personnel out into the open.

But this wasn’t just for show. It was a setup.

When an Alvarado police officer arrived to investigate, a hidden gunman in the woods opened fire, hitting the officer in the neck. Miraculously, that officer survived and has since been treated and released from a Fort Worth hospital. Meanwhile, other suspects opened fire—20 to 30 rounds—on unarmed ICE officers who had exited the building. Thankfully, none of those officers were injured.

What followed was a swift manhunt. Authorities arrested multiple suspects in nearby areas. They were found with body armor, loaded firearms, tactical gear, masks, and disturbing propaganda that read “Resist Fascism, Fight Oligarchy” and “Fight ICE Terror with Class War.” One AR-style rifle was recovered, jammed at the scene. One suspect, not involved in the shooting but accused of trying to destroy evidence, is facing obstruction of justice charges.

Federal prosecutors didn’t mince words—this was an ambush, not a demonstration. Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson said those who use violence against law enforcement "will be prosecuted with the toughest criminal statutes available."

Now, ten suspects have been charged with three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer, along with three counts of discharging a firearm during a violent crime. If convicted, they each face 10 years to life in federal prison.

This attack comes during a tense political climate where ICE and other law enforcement agencies are increasingly targeted. Officials say this was the fifth assault on law enforcement in North Texas this year. The FBI is urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.

It’s important we don’t underestimate what happened here. This was a deliberate act of violence aimed at federal agents and local police officers—people who put themselves in harm’s way every day. No matter where you stand politically, violence like this has no place in civil discourse.
