Shohei Ohtani Shines on Both Sides of the Ball in Electric Win Over Twins

What a wild night at Dodger Stadium, and it started with a bang — quite literally. Shohei Ohtani stepped onto the mound for his sixth pitching start of the season and immediately found himself in an early jam. Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins sent Ohtani’s second pitch soaring into the left-center stands for a leadoff home run, the first extra-base hit Ohtani had given up all year. But if there’s one thing we know about Shohei, it’s that he’s never out of a game — not as a pitcher, and definitely not as a hitter.

Though Ohtani’s night on the mound was limited — just three innings pitched, 46 pitches, four hits allowed, and three strikeouts — he did his job and kept the damage to a minimum after the rocky start. His control wasn’t as sharp as usual, with Twins hitters making hard contact, but Ohtani battled. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts later noted Ohtani’s elevated intensity and leadership, especially when the team needed to snap a three-game losing streak.

From there, the Dodgers took over. Will Smith added two solo homers of his own, Andy Pages tacked on another, and Dustin May stepped in after Ohtani, pitching nearly five scoreless innings to keep the Twins at bay. But the final word came in the ninth — the Twins were rallying, bases loaded, and Carlos Correa stepped to the plate. He launched what looked like a game-tying three-run homer to center field… but James Outman had other plans. Outman made a leaping grab at the wall, robbing Correa and sealing the 5-2 victory in dramatic fashion.

It was a full team win, but make no mistake — Ohtani was the spark. From giving up a homer to launching one, to setting the tone for the night, he once again showed why he’s unlike anyone we’ve ever seen in this sport. As his pitch count slowly climbs and his two-way rhythm sharpens, we’re witnessing something truly special every time he steps on the field. And on this night, he reminded the Twins — and everyone else — exactly who’s in charge at Chavez Ravine.
