Spider-Man Swings Into Magic: The Gathering With Spectacular Welcome Decks
Hey everyone, this is pretty exciting news for both Marvel fans and Magic: The Gathering players—Spider-Man is officially joining the MTG multiverse, and he’s bringing a web-slinging lineup of Welcome Decks with him! Wizards of the Coast just announced the Marvel’s Spider-Man Welcome Decks , and this isn’t just some minor crossover—it’s a full integration of Spidey into the MTG experience, tailored for new players and collectors alike.
So what exactly are these Welcome Decks? Think of them as your friendly neighborhood starter packs. There are five monocolor decks—white, blue, black, red, and green—each one featuring a key Spider-Verse character. For example, the white deck stars Peter Parker’s classic Spider-Man, while the green deck features Miles Morales, and Gwen Stacy leads the red deck. Each Welcome Deck comes with two 30-card decks: one of a fixed color and one randomly selected from the remaining colors. That’s a clever way to help new players learn about MTG’s core mechanics while getting introduced to the characters and flavor of the Spider-Man universe.

Now here's the cool part for collectors and players alike: there are new cards exclusive to these decks. They use a special SPE set code, and while they aren’t legal in Standard play, they can still be found in foil form in Collector Boosters . And then there's the main set cards—marked with SPM —which are Standard legal and will be the real stars of upcoming decks.
One card already spoiled from the main set is Origin of Spider-Man , a two-mana saga that can generate a 3/2 creature with Double Strike and offers flexibility in buffing other creatures. While it may not seem flashy at first glance, it has serious potential in both aggressive and midrange strategies. In Standard, this could easily slot into Mono-White Aggro or even be used creatively in Selesnya-style decks with creatures that can capitalize on buffs. It’s early, but this card could become a staple for value-based strategies.
Commander players, don’t worry—you’re not left out. Origin of Spider-Man has a decent shot in Saga-themed builds, especially under commanders like Tom Bombadil . It might not pack the biggest punch in multiplayer formats, but it’s flexible, flavorful, and a great early-game play. Plus, it’s a perfect fit for anyone who just loves building around the lore.
One thing to note is that these Welcome Decks are not the full spoiler season kick-off. That’s expected to begin later, but there’s a major Spider-Man MTG announcement coming at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. So if you're waiting to see what else is swinging into the game, this Friday might give us that "first look" moment.
So whether you’re a seasoned planeswalker or a Marvel fan just dipping your toes into MTG, this set looks like a blast. With recognizable characters, accessible decks, and exciting new cards, Marvel’s Spider-Man x Magic: The Gathering might just be one of the best entry points we’ve seen in years.
And if you’re curious to get your hands on these Welcome Decks, they’ll be available starting September 26, 2025 , at participating WPN game stores. Perfect time to grab some friends, pick your favorite Spidey variant, and start learning Magic in the coolest way possible.
