Stampeders Dominate as Adams Jr. Leads the Charge Against Blue Bombers

Let me tell you, last night’s CFL showdown between the Calgary Stampeders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was nothing short of a statement game. The Stamps didn’t just win — they completely owned the field, walking out of Winnipeg with a decisive 41–20 victory. And once again, quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. was at the center of it all, delivering three touchdown passes and over 260 yards through the air.

Adams Jr. looked calm and in control from the opening snap, connecting on deep shots and short plays alike, and finding chemistry with receiver Damien Alford, who hauled in two huge touchdowns — one for 37 yards, the other for 42. Dominique Rhymes added another score on a short toss, and that’s just the offense. The real dagger? Calgary’s defense stepped up big time, intercepting Winnipeg quarterbacks four times — including a pick-six by Damon Webb early in the fourth that put this one out of reach.

Now, I’ve got to say, it wasn’t just about Adams and the offense. Calgary’s defense was relentless, shutting down anything the Bombers tried to build. And when Winnipeg started driving late in the third, threatening to make it a game again, Adrian Greene came up with a clutch interception right in the red zone. You could feel the energy shift right there. The Bombers were rattled, and the Stamps capitalized with a scoring drive that pushed the lead to 24–13.

Winnipeg’s night got even worse when their star quarterback Zach Collaros went down in the second quarter with what looked like a concussion. That’s always tough to see, no matter which side you're cheering for. Head coach Dave Dickenson — a former QB himself — even said he had a tear in his eye watching it happen. Without Collaros, the Bombers just couldn’t keep up. Chris Streveler stepped in and did what he could, including a late touchdown to Kody Case, but the damage was already done.

It’s worth noting that this is the second time in three weeks Calgary has thumped Winnipeg — they beat them 37–16 earlier this month. Now sitting at 5–1, the Stampeders are at the top of the West Division and showing no signs of slowing down. This team is balanced, confident, and clearly gelling at the right time.

But even in the loss, there was a touching moment. Bombers fans gave a warm, emotional welcome back to team legend Milt Stegall, who returned to the TSN panel after the tragic passing of his son. You could feel the love in the stadium.

Next up, the Bombers are heading to Toronto for a Grey Cup rematch, and they’ve got work to do. Calgary, meanwhile, heads home to face the Alouettes — and if I’m Montreal, I’m watching that game tape very, very carefully.

The Stamps are rolling, and after what we saw last night, the rest of the league should be on notice.
