Taron Egerton Says He's “Too Messy” to Be the Next James Bond
So, let’s talk about a name that keeps getting tossed around every time there's chatter about the next James Bond — Taron Egerton. You probably know him from Rocketman where he transformed into Elton John, or from Kingsman where he played Eggsy, a cheeky, street-smart secret agent. But despite all the rumors swirling around, Taron has finally spoken up — and he's politely bowing out of the Bond race.

In a recent interview with Collider , Taron was asked — yet again — about whether he’s in the running to replace Daniel Craig as 007. And his response? Pretty honest and down-to-earth. He said, “I don’t think I’m a good choice for it. I think I’m too messy for that.” That’s his word — messy . And while he made it clear that he loves the Bond franchise and especially respects what Daniel Craig brought to the role, he doesn’t see himself fitting the suave, polished mold that defines James Bond.
Egerton also mentioned that, to his knowledge, no one has officially approached him for the role — so despite the speculation and even public support from names like Geoffrey Moore, the son of Bond legend Roger Moore, this isn’t something that’s been seriously on the table.
What’s refreshing is how realistic and humble he is about it. He even said he thinks the role would probably be better served by someone younger and more aligned with the traditional Bond image — someone a bit more “cool” and composed, if you will. But don’t get it twisted — Taron’s not ruling out big roles entirely. He hinted that he’s open to other major commercial projects; he’s just being selective and, clearly, very self-aware.
Meanwhile, the guessing game for the next 007 continues. Bookmakers still have Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the favorite, followed by names like Theo James and Jack Lowden, with Henry Cavill and Callum Turner also getting plenty of buzz. And now that Amazon has full creative control of the Bond franchise following its $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM, it’s safe to say big changes are ahead. We do know that Denis Villeneuve — the visionary director behind Dune — has been tapped to helm the next Bond film, so that alone adds a whole new layer of intrigue.
But as for Taron Egerton? He’s letting this one pass — and doing so with a whole lot of grace.
