Toronto Braces for Thunderstorm Before a Sizzling Summer Week Ahead
Hey everyone, just a quick update on what’s going on with Toronto’s weather—because if you’ve stepped outside lately, you know it’s been a bit of a roller coaster. After a stretch of intense heat and smoky skies that blanketed the city last week, there’s a shift in the atmosphere this weekend—and it’s bringing a stormy twist.
Tonight (Saturday), Toronto is gearing up for the potential of thunderstorms. We’ve had mostly clear skies during the day, with temperatures hitting around 28°C, but it definitely felt hotter with the humidity making it feel like 31. And let me tell you—the UV index has been through the roof, sitting at a solid 9, which is considered very high. If you’re out and about, sun protection is a must.

As we head into the evening, clouds are expected to build up fast, and Environment Canada has noted there’s a solid chance of showers and thunderstorms later tonight and into the overnight hours. Temperatures will drop slightly to around 20°C overnight, but the humidity will still linger, keeping things a bit sticky.
Now, looking ahead to Sunday, the weather starts to stabilize. The storm threat should clear by the afternoon, and we’ll be left with a mix of sun and clouds. Expect temperatures around 26°C but feeling like 30 once again due to the humidity. Gusty winds may show up near noon—around 40 km/h—so don’t be surprised if your patio umbrella starts dancing.
Sunday night brings some relief—finally—with skies clearing out and a more comfortable low of 14°C. And then we’re cruising into a sunny, summer-staple kind of week.
Monday through Wednesday is looking solid: sunshine returns in full force. Highs will sit in the mid-to-upper 20s, peaking at 30°C on Wednesday. Nights will be cooler, dipping down into the mid to high teens, which is welcome news after all the muggy nights we’ve had lately.
By Thursday and Friday, clouds roll back in with a 40% chance of showers both days. Temperatures will still hover close to 30°C during the day, but at least we might get some spotty rain to break the heat.
And honestly, after what Toronto just went through with that extreme heat and poor air quality—when we were ranked among the worst in the world midweek for air pollution—this slight cooldown and touch of rain could be just what the city needs.
So, if you’ve got plans tonight, keep an umbrella handy and maybe think twice before staying out too late. But starting tomorrow, it’s mostly blue skies and summer vibes ahead. Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy the break from the smoke and scorch.
