AFL Legends Game 2025 Brings Fan Favorites Back to the Field
The excitement is building as the AFL Legends Game 2025 is set to make a spectacular return at Marvel Stadium this Thursday night, and fans across Australia are already counting down the hours. This year’s event promises to be a thrilling showcase of some of the game’s most celebrated names, with Fremantle Dockers fan favorites Hayden Ballantyne and Stephen Hill joining the lineup alongside AFL great Jeff Farmer.
The Legends Game has always been about celebrating the stars who defined a generation, and this year is no different. The iconic state of origin-style clash will feature Victoria taking on the All Stars, a match that honors the memory of the legendary E.J. Whitten, who passed away from prostate cancer 30 years ago. Proceeds from the event will continue to support prostate cancer research and patient care at the Australian Prostate Centre, making it a meaningful night for both fans and the community.

Team Victoria will be led by Luke Hodge, the Hawthorn legend and AFL commentator, who will take on the role of captain, with Tim Watson stepping in as coach. The All Stars, meanwhile, will be captained by St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt and coached by Hawthorn icon Shane Crawford. Adding extra star power, two of the AFL’s most celebrated players have come out of retirement to participate: Gary Ablett Jr., the two-time premiership midfielder, will take the field for Victoria, while Cyril Rioli, four-time premiership player and Norm Smith medallist, will line up for the All Stars.
In addition to these household names, the game will also feature a variety of personalities outside traditional AFL circles. Sunrise co-host Matt Shirvington has been challenged to don the boots for the All Stars, while the commentary team has been strengthened with AFL legends like Brian Taylor, Matthew Richardson, Rebecca Maddern, Andy Maher, and Billy Brownless, along with Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico providing on-field insights.
Fans won’t just be watching history; they can actively engage by purchasing a Virtual Legends Seat, supporting a great cause while enjoying live coverage. The game will be broadcast live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport from 7:00 pm AEST, ensuring everyone can catch all the action, no matter where they are.
With the mix of AFL royalty, fan favorites, and a meaningful cause, the 2025 Legends Game is shaping up to be a night that will be remembered for years to come. It’s more than just a game—it’s a celebration of football, community, and the legends who made the sport unforgettable. Fans can expect high energy, memorable moments, and a return of the spectacle that has made the Legends Game a highlight of the AFL calendar.
