Amazon Brings Same-Day Grocery Delivery to Over 1,000 Cities
Have you ever wished you could get your groceries delivered the same day you order them, without even leaving your couch? Well, Amazon is making that dream a reality for more than 1,000 cities across the U.S. Starting now, fresh groceries—from milk and eggs to fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood—can be ordered alongside all your usual Amazon products, and delivered straight to your doorstep in just a few hours.
This is part of what Amazon calls one of its most significant grocery expansions yet. For Prime members, Same-Day Delivery is free on orders over $25 in most cities. If you don’t hit that minimum, there’s a small $2.99 fee. And even if you’re not a Prime member, you can still get your groceries delivered the same day for a flat $12.99. The company has ambitious plans, aiming to double the service’s reach to over 2,300 cities by the end of this year, and expand even further in 2026.

What makes this new service really impressive is how seamlessly it integrates fresh groceries with Amazon’s other offerings. You can order bananas alongside electronics, strawberries with a mystery novel, or frozen pizza while grabbing tools for your latest home project—all in one checkout. It’s convenience like never before, and customers who tried early pilots in Phoenix, Orlando, and Kansas City loved it. Many first-time grocery buyers came back to shop multiple times, proving that people are embracing the ease of having everything delivered at once.
Amazon ensures the quality of perishable items with a specialized, temperature-controlled network. Every item goes through a six-point quality check before leaving the fulfillment center, and temperature-sensitive products are delivered in insulated bags that are recyclable in most curbside programs. This careful handling is designed to complement Amazon’s other grocery services, including Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market deliveries.
The move is also a smart business play. In 2024, Amazon generated over $100 billion in grocery and household sales, and this expansion is expected to further increase market share. Analysts say that because Amazon already has the logistics infrastructure in place, it could grow this grocery delivery service profitably—something that has been challenging for other online grocers.
For those of us who are Prime members, this is just another reason to love the membership. It’s faster, more convenient, and makes grocery shopping almost effortless. From now on, picking up milk, avocados, and your favorite snacks can be done without leaving home—and it might arrive at your door before lunch.
