Today, we remember and celebrate the life of Jaswinder Bhalla, the legendary Punjabi actor and comedian whose laughter touched millions. Bhalla, famously known for his unforgettable role as Advocate Dhillon in the “Carry On Jatta” series, passed away at the age of 65. His death, caused by a brain stroke, occurred early on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Fortis Hospital in Mohali, leaving fans and colleagues in deep shock and mourning.

Jaswinder Bhalla’s contribution to Punjabi cinema was immense. Known for his impeccable comic timing and satirical wit, he brought characters to life in a way that made them memorable long after the credits rolled. Though primarily a Punjabi artist, his work crossed regional boundaries, earning him recognition beyond Punjab. He collaborated with celebrated comedians like Jaspal Bhatti in the Hindi comedy “Mahaul Theek Hai” in 1999, which showcased his versatility and charm.

The news of his passing was confirmed by close friend and fellow performer Balmukund Sharma, who shared that Bhalla had suffered a stroke on Wednesday evening and was immediately admitted to the hospital. Despite the medical care he received, he could not recover. His last rites are scheduled to be held on August 23 at the Balongi cremation ground in Mohali, where family, friends, and admirers will gather to pay their respects.

Bhalla’s journey in cinema began with the film “Dulha Batti,” and over the years, he became a household name through his roles in movies like “Jatt & Juliet 2,” “Jatt Airways,” and the iconic “Carry On Jatta” series. His dialogues, comedic expressions, and unique style of humor created an enduring legacy in Punjabi entertainment. Even his younger co-stars and fans admired him not only for his talent but for his humility and dedication to his craft.

Outside the film world, Bhalla was a respected academic. He earned a Master of Science degree from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and later served as a faculty member before retiring in 2020 as Professor and Head of the Department of Extension Education. This balance between art and academia reflected his multifaceted personality, earning him respect in both spheres.

Public figures and political leaders have expressed their condolences, acknowledging his contribution to the arts and the Punjabi community. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid tribute to Bhalla, noting how his work and the laughter he spread would always be remembered. Similarly, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring highlighted Bhalla’s proud Punjabi voice and the mark he left on the hearts of audiences worldwide.

Jaswinder Bhalla may have left us physically, but his legacy of laughter, joy, and unforgettable cinematic moments will remain alive in the hearts of millions.
