Bobby Webster Takes the Helm of Raptors Basketball Operations
Big news is coming out of Toronto’s basketball world today. Bobby Webster, who has been a central figure in the Raptors’ front office for over a decade, has officially been named the team’s head of basketball operations. That means he will now oversee the team’s roster, strategy, and day-to-day basketball decisions, stepping into a role that’s even more prominent than his long-standing position as general manager. Interestingly, the Raptors have decided not to appoint a team president at this time, so Webster will carry a significant amount of responsibility with the full support of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, or MLSE, and its president and CEO, Keith Pelley.

Webster’s journey with the Raptors is impressive. He is entering his ninth season as general manager and his 13th overall with the organization, and he has spent 21 years in the NBA. He has been recognized as one of the key architects behind Toronto’s 2019 championship team, a roster that captured the hearts of fans not just in Toronto but around the world. Over the years, Webster has been instrumental in building the team’s structure, managing day-to-day operations, and shaping the roster in ways that have kept the Raptors competitive in a tough league. Before stepping into the GM role in 2017, he served as assistant general manager and vice president of basketball management and strategy, proving his deep understanding of both the basketball and organizational side of the game.
Before joining Toronto, Webster’s career included seven years at the NBA’s league office, where he worked under commissioners David Stern and Adam Silver. During that time, he contributed to major projects, including negotiations around the collective bargaining agreement, and was part of the team that successfully finalized the 2011 CBA with the National Basketball Players Association. Clearly, his experience at both the league and team level has shaped him into one of the most respected executives in professional basketball.
Outside of basketball, Webster is based in Toronto with his wife Lauren, who is an entrepreneur and founder of her own company, and their three children. His leadership, experience, and commitment to the Raptors organization have been highlighted by fans and colleagues alike, and now, with this expanded role, all eyes will be on how he steers the team into the next chapter of its history.
