Borussia Dortmund Eye Shock Move for Ex-Rangers Striker Fábio Silva
So, here’s a bit of a twist in the football transfer world that not many saw coming—Fábio Silva, the former Rangers loanee who didn’t exactly set Scottish football alight, could be on the verge of a pretty sensational move. Reports are flying in that Borussia Dortmund have actually offered him a stunning five-year contract.
Now, for anyone who remembers Silva’s short spell at Rangers about 18 months ago, this might come as a bit of a surprise. He was brought in on loan from Wolves for the second half of the 2023/24 season. During his time at Ibrox, he scored six goals in 25 appearances—not terrible, but nothing groundbreaking either. In fact, his celebrations rubbed some Rangers fans the wrong way when the team wasn’t doing too well. And yet, after that stint, Silva said the experience “made him a man,” which seems to have stuck with him, because his career since has taken a bit of an upward curve.

After leaving Scotland, Silva returned to Wolves briefly before heading off to Spain, where he had a much more fruitful spell at Las Palmas. Despite the club being relegated, he managed to notch 10 goals and even got his first cap for Portugal. That form clearly didn’t go unnoticed, and now German giants Borussia Dortmund are seriously interested. They’re said to be looking for a backup striker to support Serhou Guirassy, and Silva has apparently made it onto their radar as a top candidate.
According to sources like Get German Football News and others, Dortmund have tabled a five-year deal, and talks between Wolves and the German club are expected to pick up steam this week. The only hold-up? The price tag. Wolves initially paid a hefty £35 million to bring Silva in from Porto when he was just 18, and they’re not keen to let him go cheaply. Dortmund are working on a deal in the region of £17 million, but Wolves are reportedly pushing for closer to £20 million.
Silva’s journey has been all over the map—Portugal, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, Spain—and now possibly Germany. It’s been far from a smooth ride, especially considering he only managed four goals in 62 Premier League appearances for Wolves. But if this deal goes through, it might just be the fresh start he needs at a top-tier club that believes in his potential.
From Rangers "flop" to potential Champions League regular—football really does have a funny way of turning things around.
