Chelsea Set to Snatch Facundo Buonanotte in Late Transfer Twist
It looks like Chelsea are about to pull off another late move in the transfer market, and this time it’s for Brighton’s young Argentine talent, Facundo Buonanotte. What makes this story so interesting is that just a couple of days ago, it seemed certain that he was on his way to Leeds United. Leeds had everything lined up — a flight booked, medical tests prepared, and even personal terms agreed. But in the end, Buonanotte never boarded that plane, and the deal collapsed at the last moment.
Now, the Club World Cup champions are the ones stepping in. Chelsea, who have been chasing an attacking midfielder all summer, appear ready to bring Buonanotte in on loan. They had been looking at other names, including RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez, but when those options slipped away — with Simons heading to Tottenham — Buonanotte suddenly became the ideal target.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has already shown his potential. Last season, while on loan at Leicester City, he managed six goals and three assists across 35 appearances. For someone his age, that’s a solid return in a highly competitive league. Brighton had hoped to keep him in the Premier League to build his experience and also secure homegrown status, but Chelsea’s move looks like it will achieve exactly that — only in a blue shirt rather than white.
This possible transfer is just the latest in a long list of connections between Chelsea and Brighton. In recent years, players like Moisés Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, and Robert Sánchez have all made that same journey, not to mention manager Graham Potter and his staff back in 2022. Joao Pedro also moved earlier this summer, so there’s clearly a strong transfer pipeline between the two clubs.
For Leeds United, though, this collapse is a serious blow. Their manager, Daniel Farke, has been clear that he wants more attacking options before the transfer window shuts, and Buonanotte had looked like a perfect fit. He could have played as a number 10 or drifted in from the wings, exactly the kind of versatility Leeds need. Now, with time running out, they’ll have to look elsewhere — and quickly.
As for Buonanotte, a loan move to Chelsea could represent a huge step forward. He’s already racked up over 100 senior appearances and even has a couple of caps for Argentina at just 20 years old. At Stamford Bridge, he’ll have the chance to learn alongside top talent and gain experience on a bigger stage. If the deal goes through, it could be a turning point in his career — and yet another sign that Chelsea remain determined to stockpile the brightest young players in world football.
