Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Autoroute 30 in Boucherville
Yesterday afternoon, a tragic accident unfolded on Autoroute 30 in Boucherville, leaving two people dead and four others injured. The crash happened around 4 p.m., just before the intersection with Autoroute 20, involving a dump truck and eight smaller vehicles. According to reports from Québec 511, the dump truck overturned, creating chaos on this busy stretch of road.
Authorities from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) indicated that the exact circumstances are still unclear. However, initial observations suggest that the heavy vehicle was unable to stop in time due to a sudden slowdown in traffic. Tragically, a woman and a child lost their lives in the collision, while four other individuals, including the truck driver, were transported to hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver has been interviewed by investigators, and reconstitution specialists were called to the scene to analyze the crash.

At the time, the eastbound lanes of Autoroute 30 were completely closed, causing major congestion in both directions. Nearby roads, such as Rang des Vingt-Cinq and Boulevard De Montarville, were also heavily affected. The closure lasted for several hours while emergency crews worked to clear the scene and attend to the victims. By Thursday morning, traffic had resumed in the area.
Locals have long considered this section of Autoroute 30 to be hazardous. Drivers reported that the access to the ramp leading to Autoroute 20 east is tight, leaving very little room for vehicles to merge safely. Many also complained about reckless driving behaviors in the area, describing situations where drivers ignore proper spacing and “first come, first served” rules.
The recent crash is not an isolated incident. Over the past two days, three fatal collisions involving heavy trucks have occurred in Quebec. Earlier in the week, a crash near Saint-Hyacinthe killed one person and injured three, while another accident on Autoroute 50 claimed the life of a 46-year-old man. In the Lac-Saint-Jean region, a collision involving a truck and a SUV left a woman and three children injured, one of whom remains in critical condition.
In response to these incidents, CAA-Québec has called for increased caution around large vehicles. André Durocher, the organization’s director, emphasized that truck drivers require more time to stop, and accidents involving them can have far more severe consequences. Drivers are urged to maintain awareness and adjust their behavior to ensure safe coexistence with heavy vehicles on the road.
This tragic event on Autoroute 30 serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of high-traffic areas and the importance of vigilance behind the wheel. While the highway has reopened, the memory of the lives lost and the families affected will linger as authorities continue their investigation.
