Everton Close in on Dewsbury-Hall as Transfer Window Heats Up
So, some pretty big news out of the transfer world—Everton look to be turning their summer around with a potentially game-changing signing. They’ve reportedly agreed a deal with Chelsea to bring in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and that move could be exactly what the Toffees need to inject some quality into their midfield.
Now, the agreed fee is said to be £25 million upfront, with add-ons that might push the total closer to £29 million. Dewsbury-Hall only joined Chelsea last summer after a standout season with Leicester, where he helped them clinch the Championship title. At Leicester, he was absolutely instrumental—he chipped in with 12 goals and 14 assists, which is a huge return for a box-to-box midfielder. That stat alone made him one of the top performers in the Championship in recent years.

His time at Chelsea, though, was a bit more complicated. Despite making 36 appearances in total, he only started twice in the Premier League. Most of his minutes came in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League campaign, where he did manage to make an impact—four goals and three assists in 13 appearances, not bad at all. He even scored in extra time during their Club World Cup match against Benfica. So, while his opportunities were limited in the league, he clearly showed that he can deliver on the European stage.
David Moyes, Everton’s manager, has been quite vocal lately about the need for reinforcements. He's said outright that his squad isn’t ready for the Premier League season to start. And with Dewsbury-Hall now on the verge of joining, that midfield void left by Abdoulaye Doucouré might finally be addressed. Moyes wants a true No. 8 who can both create and score, and Dewsbury-Hall ticks both boxes.
Everton are also chasing Southampton winger Tyler Dibling, but that one’s still up in the air. They’ve had multiple bids turned down, the latest being around £35 million plus add-ons. Southampton reportedly want closer to £45 million, though earlier in the year they threw out a tongue-in-cheek £100 million valuation. It’s a bit of a standoff, but Everton might still push for him or look elsewhere—Lyon’s Malick Fofana is being mentioned as an alternative.
So, while Everton’s transfer window started off slowly and with some frustration, it looks like things are finally moving. And if Dewsbury-Hall hits the ground running, this could end up being one of the smarter signings of the summer.
