F1 Fan Grandmother Wins McLaren Supercar in £10 Omaze Draw

Imagine putting just £10 into a charity draw and suddenly finding yourself the owner of a £250,000 McLaren supercar. That’s exactly what happened to 62-year-old grandmother Rebecca Francis from Ascot, Berkshire. A lifelong Formula One fan and self-confessed petrolhead, she couldn’t quite believe her luck when Omaze told her she had won their latest prize – a McLaren Artura Spider capable of reaching speeds over 200 miles per hour.

Rebecca had entered the Omaze Million Pound House Draw for the very first time, more drawn in by the glamorous homes and the good causes supported than by any expectation of winning. When she got the notification to join a call with the Omaze team, she assumed it might just be about a small token prize. Instead, she was told that her single £10 entry had won her a British-built supercar that could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just three seconds. At first, she thought it must be a hoax. After all, she said she “never wins anything.”

As part of her prize experience, Rebecca was taken out for a thrilling drive by Hollywood stunt driver Tessa Whittock, who showed her just what the McLaren could do. Rebecca described the ride as “unbelievable,” joking that she went from zero to screaming in two seconds. For a moment, she felt like she was in the shoes of Max Verstappen—or perhaps Lando Norris, since she was in a McLaren. Even after climbing out, she admitted she could hardly believe the stunning car was hers.

But here’s the twist: despite her passion for fast cars, Rebecca has decided not to keep the McLaren. Earlier this year, she became a grandmother for the first time, with another grandchild on the way. For her, the transformational value lies not in owning the supercar, but in what selling it will mean for her family. She explained that the money will allow her to help her children, spoil her grandchildren, travel to Canada to visit her son in style, and even choose a more comfortable retirement when she feels ready.

Rebecca called the prize “life-changing,” adding that it has given her freedom and security at exactly the right time, especially since a consultancy role she held ended recently. She has since gone back part-time to her passion of working as a lifestyle practitioner, specializing in essential oils under the name “The Essential Consultant.”

And of course, the charitable side of Omaze remains central. The very draw that Rebecca entered raised £3.7 million for Anthony Nolan, funding critical stem cell transplant work. Since launching in the UK in 2020, Omaze has raised over £100 million for charities. Rebecca now has her eye on another potential prize—a dream coastal home in Cornwall or a furnished New Forest retreat, complete with cash.

For now, though, her £10 ticket has already rewritten her story. What began as beginner’s luck has turned into a remarkable win, not just of a car, but of the freedom to shape her future and support the people she loves most.
