Five Soldiers Injured in Fort Stewart Shooting, Suspect in Custody
A frightening and chaotic scene unfolded earlier today at Fort Stewart, a major U.S. Army installation in Georgia, when an active shooter incident sent the base into lockdown and left five soldiers injured. The situation is now under control, but not before the base experienced several tense moments as emergency responders rushed to the scene and the entire installation was sealed off.
At around 10:56 a.m. local time, authorities were alerted to reports of an active shooter in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area of the base. Within minutes, the base was locked down as law enforcement officers responded swiftly. According to official sources, including Fort Stewart’s verified Facebook page and multiple news agencies, the shooter was apprehended by 11:35 a.m. Thankfully, officials have since confirmed that there is no longer an active threat to the community.

All five injured soldiers were treated on-site by emergency personnel before being transported to Winn Army Community Hospital. Their conditions have not yet been disclosed, and their identities are being withheld pending notification of family members. As of now, the motive behind the shooting has not been released, and the incident remains under investigation by military authorities in coordination with the FBI and the Army Criminal Investigation Division.
Fort Stewart, located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah, is home to the 3rd Infantry Division and serves as both a training and deployment base for active and reserve Army units. Together with the nearby Hunter Army Airfield, it supports over 25,000 military personnel, civilian employees, and their families. This is a tightly-knit military community, so today's violence has understandably shaken many on and off the base.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp responded to the news on social media, saying he is in close contact with law enforcement and is “saddened by today’s tragedy.” He asked Georgians to keep the victims, their families, and the military community in their thoughts and prayers.
As of now, parts of the base remain under lockdown as investigators continue to process the scene and piece together exactly what happened. It’s a stark reminder that even places dedicated to national defense are not immune to the troubling rise in gun violence.
More updates are expected as the investigation unfolds, and the community rallies around those affected by today’s events.
