Ford Recalls Thousands of F-150 Trucks Over Axle Defect
Ford has announced a significant recall that affects tens of thousands of its popular F-150 pickup trucks across Canada and the United States. This move was made after it was discovered that a problem with the rear axle could lead to a dangerous loss of power or even cause the vehicle to roll away if the parking brake isn’t applied.
Specifically, the recall involves certain 2023, 2024, and 2025 models of the F-150 that are equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty Optional package. In these trucks, bolts on the rear axle hub may break, which can then damage the axle shaft splines. If that happens, power to the wheels could be lost, making it difficult or impossible for the driver to move the truck. Even more concerning, if the truck is parked and the parking brake isn’t engaged, the defect could cause the vehicle to unexpectedly roll away, creating a clear safety hazard.
Ford has identified over 22,600 trucks in Canada alone that are affected, while more than 100,000 vehicles are being recalled across North America. Transport Canada and the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have both flagged this issue as a safety risk. Owners of these trucks are being notified by mail, and dealerships will be ready to fix the problem free of charge. Repairs will involve replacing the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies.
