Freo Go Full Retro with Unchanged Side for Carlton Clash

Alright, here’s what’s happening with Fremantle heading into their big Retro Round clash against Carlton—it’s a bit of a throwback vibe this weekend, and Freo fans are in for a treat both on and off the field.

Fremantle have officially locked in their final 23 for the Sunday match, and they’ve decided to stick with the exact same line-up that got the job done in last week’s RAC Derby win. That means no changes, which is always a good sign of team confidence and stability. Hayden Young, who just took out the Glendinning-Allan Medal, will again start in the midfield. He’s joined by Jaeger O’Meara and Nathan O’Driscoll on the wings, keeping that strong core together.

Karl Worner, who just signed a new two-year contract extension, will hold down centre half-back, with Jordan Clark and Heath Chapman flanking him. It’s a defensive unit that’s been working well and clearly, the coaching staff want to keep that rhythm going.

The interchange includes Bailey Banfield, Sean Darcy, Isaiah Dudley, Neil Erasmus, and young gun Murphy Reid—who’s been turning heads with his composure on the field lately. The tactical sub will be revealed an hour before bounce-down.

A couple of updates on key players too—Alex Pearce is still recovering from a shin injury but progressing well and is expected back next week. Nat Fyfe is easing his way back from a calf injury and will be running out for Peel Thunder on Saturday in the WAFL with managed minutes. In Pearce’s absence, Caleb Serong will wear the captain’s armband.

As for Carlton, they’ve had the wood over Freo lately, winning seven of the last eight encounters. But the last time Freo beat the Blues was right at home in 2022—by a solid 35 points. And speaking of home ground advantage, Optus Stadium has pretty much become a fortress for Freo in 2025, with nine wins from their last 10 games in Perth.

This round isn’t just about the footy though—it’s Retro Round, and Fremantle are taking it way back to 2003. They’ll be rocking a modern version of their first-ever Purple Haze jumper, which ditched the red and green for a clean purple and white anchor look. It was the first time they went with just two main colours in club history, and now it’s back for one game only.

To make it even sweeter, Freo are offering throwback ticket prices too—just $22 for a limited time. It's a proper nod to the early 2000s, and fans are jumping on it fast.

The game kicks off at 3:10pm WST on Sunday at Optus Stadium. It’ll be broadcast live on Channel 7, Fox Footy, and streaming on Kayo and 7plus from 2:30pm. It’s shaping up to be a massive day of footy, nostalgia, and hopefully, a strong performance from the Dockers.
