Jason Momoa Shaves His Beard for ‘Dune 3’—And He’s Not Happy About It
So, here's something that really grabbed fans’ attention—Jason Momoa just shaved his beard for the first time in six years! Yeah, you heard that right. The famously bearded actor took a razor to his face, and it was all for one reason: to return as Duncan Idaho in Dune: Part Three .
Momoa actually filmed himself doing the whole thing—shaving off his signature look—and posted it online, giving fans a glimpse into just how much he’s willing to commit for a role. In the clip, you can hear him grumbling, “Only for you, Denis,” talking about Dune director Denis Villeneuve. And then he adds, with total frustration, “Goddamnit! I hate it.” Honestly, you can feel his pain. That beard was part of his identity for so long.

Now, for a little background—Momoa played Duncan Idaho in the first Dune film, but his character wasn’t in Part Two . If you remember, Duncan was the loyal swordmaster and protector of Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet. He made the ultimate sacrifice in the first film to help Paul and Lady Jessica escape the brutal Sardaukar troops. But here’s the twist: in the original Dune novels by Frank Herbert, Duncan returns as a clone. So while it hasn’t been confirmed how exactly Villeneuve is handling his return in the movie, Momoa is officially back.
And the cast for Dune: Part Three is looking epic. Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh are all returning. But what’s really interesting is that Momoa’s teenage son, Nakoa-Wolf, is joining the cast too. He’ll be playing Leto II, one of the twins born to Paul and Chani. The other twin, Ghanima, will be played by Silo star Ida Brooke. It’s a big deal for Nakoa-Wolf—it’s his first professional role, and his dad couldn’t be prouder. In an interview, Momoa said his son did it all on his own and that he’s already doing things Jason himself couldn't have handled at 16.
Dune: Part Three is slated to hit theaters in December 2026, and if the hype around Momoa’s beard is any indicator, fans are definitely ready. Whether it’s the action, the storyline, or just seeing Duncan Idaho resurrected (and clean-shaven), this movie is shaping up to be a huge moment for the franchise.
