Josh Worrell Commits to Crows Until 2033
Adelaide’s defensive future has been locked in for the long haul, with Josh Worrell putting pen to paper on a massive contract extension that will keep him in Crows colors until the end of 2033. At just 24 years old, Worrell has already become one of the most reliable pillars in Adelaide’s backline, and this deal ensures that stability continues well beyond free agency.
What makes this extension even more remarkable is that Worrell was already under contract until the end of 2027. Instead of waiting it out, he jumped at the chance to commit six more years on top, making it clear that his heart and future belong in Adelaide. When asked about the decision, Worrell admitted it was an easy call. He said the process was wrapped up quickly, and although he still had time left on his deal, he couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else. He spoke passionately about loving the direction the club is heading, cherishing his teammates, and embracing the city of Adelaide as home for the long term.

This extension comes in the middle of what is shaping as Worrell’s career-best season. He has been averaging around 20 disposals and six marks a game, while also contributing heavily to Adelaide’s league-leading defense. In fact, the Crows conceded just 71 points per game during the home-and-away season, a number bettered only by Collingwood. His ability to read the play and intercept has not only solidified his place in the side but has elevated him to one of the competition’s top defenders.
Crows General Manager of List Management, Justin Reid, didn’t hold back in his praise. He highlighted how far Worrell has come since being drafted with pick 28 in 2019, particularly after spending important development time in the SANFL and overcoming injuries like the broken arm that sidelined him last season. According to Reid, the last two years have been defining ones, as Worrell has stepped up into a genuine leader down back and shown he can handle the game’s biggest challenges. Reid emphasized that the belief Worrell has in the club has been matched by the belief the team has in him, calling his buy-in fantastic for the culture Adelaide is building.
The timing couldn’t be better either. Adelaide finished on top of the ladder this season, securing the minor premiership by a game. With momentum on their side, they are now preparing to face Collingwood in a qualifying final at Adelaide Oval after the pre-finals bye. For a side eyeing a serious push at the premiership, having a key defender locked away for nearly a decade provides a huge boost in stability and confidence.
Worrell’s story is one of steady growth, resilience, and loyalty. From his draft days in Melbourne to his breakout season in 2025, he has become a cornerstone for the Crows. Now, with his future secured until 2033, Adelaide fans can look forward to many more years of watching him patrol the backline and help drive the club toward success.
