Last year, Dutil faced a difficult personal battle when he was diagnosed with cancer, which forced him to step away from the rink for several months. Despite this setback, he made a triumphant return to officiating in March of this year, stepping back onto the ice at the Colisée Desjardins for a match between the Tigres de Victoriaville and the Phoenix de Sherbrooke.
