Man Utd Chase Brighton’s Rising Star Carlos Baleba
So here’s what’s going on — there’s been a lot of buzz about Manchester United making moves in the transfer market again, and one name making headlines is Carlos Baleba. The 21-year-old midfielder, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion, has caught the eye of United’s recruitment team. And honestly, it's no surprise — he’s been one of the most impressive young midfielders in the Premier League over the past season.
Now, nothing’s official yet, but it’s been reported that Manchester United have reached out to Brighton through intermediaries — basically middlemen — to ask about the conditions for a potential transfer. Baleba still has three years left on his Brighton contract, and there's even an option to extend it for another year. So, Brighton are in a strong position, and they’ve made it clear they aren’t too keen on letting him go just yet. They want to keep him for at least another season.

Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 for around £23 million, and he was initially brought in as the successor to Moisés Caicedo, who had moved on to Chelsea in a massive transfer. Since then, Baleba has more than lived up to expectations. Last season alone, he made 40 appearances across all competitions, chipped in with four goals and two assists, and was widely praised for his energy, defensive ability, and positional intelligence.
From United’s perspective, he ticks a lot of boxes. They’re actively looking to strengthen their midfield — especially in the number 6 role. Casemiro is now 33 and entering the final year of his contract, and there’s talk that young Toby Collyer could go out on loan. That leaves some gaps in the squad that Baleba could help fill. But at the same time, Manchester United are also pursuing a big-money deal for striker Benjamin Šeško, which could complicate things financially. Unless United make some serious sales, splashing out again for Baleba this summer might be a stretch.
It’s also worth mentioning that Brighton have no financial pressure to sell. Baleba is developing well, has years left on his deal, and fits perfectly into their long-term plans. So unless something changes drastically in the next few weeks, this could just be a case of United putting out feelers for the future.
Still, it’s a story to keep an eye on. If United do manage to pull it off, they’ll be getting a seriously talented midfielder with the potential to become a mainstay in their squad for years to come.
