Man Utd Target Brighton Star Carlos Baleba in Ambitious Midfield Move
So, here’s what’s been going on—Manchester United are really showing some serious intent in this transfer window. After making significant progress toward signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, the Red Devils have now turned their attention to one of the Premier League’s most promising young midfielders—Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Baleba, a 21-year-old Cameroonian midfielder, has quietly become one of Brighton’s standout performers since joining from Lille two years ago. He was signed for just under £26 million, and with three years left on his current contract, Brighton aren't exactly looking to cash in anytime soon. In fact, word is that the club doesn’t intend to sell him at all this summer. But that hasn’t stopped United from testing the waters.

Now, it’s worth pointing out that United haven’t gone in with a formal offer just yet. Instead, they’ve approached Brighton indirectly—using intermediaries to explore whether a deal could even be possible. So far, it seems like this would be a tough one to pull off. Baleba is considered a vital part of Brighton’s squad, having made 34 league appearances last season, and it would take a pretty hefty offer to tempt them into selling.
Still, United have a good reason to try. Under manager Ruben Amorim, the midfield has been one of the biggest areas of concern. Casemiro, though experienced, is beginning to show signs of age and fatigue. Ugarte hasn’t exactly nailed down his role since arriving from PSG, and while players like Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo are talented, they’re not quite suited to the more defensive responsibilities in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 setup. With Christian Eriksen now gone after his contract expired, the need for a strong, energetic presence in the middle is more urgent than ever.
That’s where Baleba comes in. He’s known for his physicality, stamina, and defensive capabilities—qualities that would bring much-needed balance and intensity to United’s midfield. Bringing him in, alongside the expected signing of Sesko and the recent arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo, would send a clear message: United are not messing around this season.
While the Baleba move is still in the early exploratory stage, the interest is very real. If anything does develop, it could turn out to be a major statement signing for the club—and a potential game-changer for their midfield.
