Mark Labbett, the man we all know as “The Beast” from The Chase , has been showing a very different side of himself lately. Now, this wasn’t just a casual move for Mark. After splitting from Hayley Palmer last year, just after their one-year anniversary, he admitted he’d been living quietly in Yorkshire and keeping to himself. So when he agreed to join the series, it meant putting himself out of his comfort zone in a big way. He placed his love life in the hands of dating experts Anna Williamson, Paul C. Brunson, and Dr. Tara Suwinyattichaiporn, who wasted no time challenging him to break old habits.
Anna Williamson, one of the agents, described Mark as “one of the most fascinating celebrities” they’ve ever worked with. But she didn’t sugarcoat it—he had his ups and downs during filming. According to her, Mark is a strong character, someone who doesn’t shy away from speaking his mind, which sometimes clashed with the agency’s no-nonsense approach. Still, she insisted that everything they do is from a place of love, and by the end of it, the agents grew extremely fond of him.

Sitting across from fellow quiz fan Natalie, Mark seemed to struggle to stay awake, even closing his eyes mid-meal at one point, which viewers joked looked like he was dozing off. But the real headline moment came when he accidentally tried to drink from a candle on the table, completely mistaking it for his glass of water. The clip exploded online, with fans replaying the awkward blunder again and again. Some found it hilarious, others called it rude, but Mark himself admitted it was “so embarrassing.”
Despite the rocky start, Anna Williamson hinted that his journey on the show would end in a very surprising way—one that might change how people view him. Mark himself summed it up best: “Facts are easy, people are complicated.” For a man who has spent years mastering knowledge, it turns out love is the trickiest quiz of all.
And while he may have earned a few laughs for the wrong reasons, what really shone through was his willingness to learn, to listen, and to try again. In the end, that honesty and vulnerability may just be what wins people over the most.
