Massive Fire Engulfs Langley Apartment Project

Early Sunday morning, residents in Langley were jolted awake by the sight and sound of a massive fire tearing through a six-storey apartment building that was still under construction. The call came in around 4:15 a.m., and by the time crews arrived at the site near 201A Street and Fraser Highway, flames had already climbed the full height of the structure. According to Langley City Fire Rescue Chief Scott Kennedy, the building’s unfinished state allowed the fire to spread more rapidly than it might have in a completed residence.

The blaze was so intense that it quickly escalated to a four-alarm fire, requiring additional support from firefighters in both Langley Township and Surrey. Together, crews worked tirelessly to try to contain the flames, but the building was ultimately destroyed. Chief Kennedy noted that the fire moved with incredible speed, fueled by the exposed wood framing and open spaces that hadn’t yet been sealed or equipped with fire-safety systems.

Nearby residents were also forced out of their homes as a precaution. Multiple apartment complexes in the area were evacuated because of the risk of embers and debris drifting through the neighborhood. One local resident, Morgan, described hearing loud bangs before noticing the glow outside her window. She recalled stepping outside and finding debris scattered across the ground, with embers raining down from the burning structure. For many in the neighborhood, it was a frightening and surreal morning.

Fortunately, officials have confirmed that no injuries were reported. Langley RCMP stated that they are working closely with fire investigators to determine what may have sparked the blaze. At this point, the cause remains unknown, and authorities are asking anyone who was in the area, witnessed the fire, or captured dashcam footage to come forward with information.

The scale of the fire left a major impact on the community. Even though the building was still months away from being ready for residents, its destruction was a stark reminder of how quickly a construction site can turn into a dangerous inferno. People living nearby expressed relief that no one was hurt, but the incident also left many shaken, knowing how close the fire came to spreading to occupied homes.

For now, the smoldering ruins of the project stand as evidence of the blaze’s intensity, while investigators continue their work. Crews remained on scene well into the day to ensure that flare-ups did not occur and to monitor hotspots. What began as a quiet Sunday morning quickly turned into a dramatic scene that Langley residents are not likely to forget anytime soon.
