Montreal Braces for Humid Weekend With Rain on the Way

Montreal’s weather this weekend is shaping up to be a bit of a roller coaster, and it looks like people in the city will need to keep both their sunglasses and umbrellas handy. The work week wrapped up with a beautiful burst of sunshine on Friday, but that heat came with a heavy dose of humidity, making it feel like temperatures were climbing above 30 degrees. That late-summer stickiness, however, won’t be lasting for long.

Saturday is expected to start off partly cloudy, with the daytime high reaching around 29°C. But with the humidity factored in, it could feel closer to 34°C during the afternoon. It will be one of those days where the air feels thick and muggy, and by the evening, the atmosphere is expected to shift. A 60 per cent chance of showers has been forecast, and as the rain moves in, temperatures will drop quickly to around 20°C. So, while the day may start out summery and hot, the evening could end with umbrellas opening up across the city.

By Sunday, Montrealers will feel some relief from the heat as things cool down. The high is expected to reach only 24°C, with a low of 17°C overnight. That said, the rain chances stick around, with another 60 per cent chance of showers in the forecast. So, while the cooler air may feel refreshing, the dampness could linger throughout the day, making outdoor plans a little less certain.

The unsettled weather continues into the start of next week. Monday’s forecast calls for a high near 23°C, dropping to 15°C at night, with more showers possible. Tuesday brings a similar pattern, with temperatures down to 21°C during the day and a 40 per cent chance of rain. By Wednesday, however, a slight break is predicted, as a mix of sun and cloud should return, along with a more comfortable high of 22°C.

In short, the city is about to transition from a hot and humid end to the work week into a cooler, wetter stretch. While not a total washout, it looks like rain showers will be a common theme through the weekend and into the early part of the week. Montrealers heading out for festivals, park days, or evening gatherings will probably want to keep an umbrella close by and be prepared for quick changes in the weather.

So, whether you’re enjoying a terrace, planning a walk around Mount Royal, or just trying to keep cool, the skies may not fully cooperate. It will be a weekend of balancing sunshine and showers — a reminder that the end of August is slowly bringing the city closer to the crisp days of fall.
