Perrie Edwards bravely shares heartbreak of two miscarriages
Perrie Edwards has opened up about an incredibly painful part of her life, revealing that she has experienced two miscarriages, one of them tragically at 24 weeks. In a candid and emotional conversation on Paul C. Brunson’s podcast We Need To Talk , the Little Mix star spoke honestly about the grief she and her partner, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, endured.
Perrie explained that her first pregnancy ended very early. She recalled the moment she started bleeding, went to the hospital, and was told there was no baby. That early miscarriage was devastating, but later she and Alex were blessed with their son Axel, whom she lovingly describes as her “rainbow baby.” Axel is now four years old and the absolute light of their lives.

She remembered feeling excited, already planning for the baby’s arrival, setting up a room, and imagining life as a family of four. But at what was meant to be a routine 20-week scan, she knew something was terribly wrong. The sonographer kept scanning the same area over and over, and Perrie described it as an “out-of-body experience,” where everything seemed to slow down. The devastating truth was revealed: they had lost the baby at 24 weeks.
She recalled leaving the hospital in shock and despair. At that time, Alex was injured and struggling to drive, while she herself could hardly see through the tears. Friends who didn’t know what had happened would message asking about her “bump,” not realizing that there was no bump anymore. That silence, she admitted, made the heartbreak even harder.
Reflecting on the difference between her two losses, Perrie said that the first miscarriage was incredibly sad, but the second one was unbearable because of how far along she was. By then, everything had already been prepared, and the anticipation had made the bond so much stronger.
Despite the pain, Perrie still treasures pregnancy as one of the happiest times of her life. She spoke warmly of carrying Axel and how blissful that journey was once she passed the early, anxious weeks. That joy, she said, will always be part of her memory alongside the grief.
Perrie also touched on her past relationships, including her engagement to Zayn Malik, which she now sees as “toxic.” Looking back, she realized that she thought the chaos was normal because it was her first love. By contrast, she described her life with Alex as calm, safe, and steady—a relationship that has given her strength through some of her darkest days.
Her story is deeply moving, and it shines a light on the reality of miscarriage—something many women and couples go through but often feel unable to talk about. By sharing her experience so openly, Perrie has given a voice to that grief while also reminding others that hope, healing, and love are possible even after heartbreaking loss.
