Queensland’s $200 Sports Vouchers Keep Kids Active and Families Relieved
You know, there’s some really great news for families across Queensland right now—especially if you've got active kids or kids who want to get active but the cost has held things back. The Queensland Government has just reopened applications for the Play On! Sports Vouchers program. This initiative continues to be a lifeline for families feeling the pinch from rising living costs, and honestly, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

So, what’s it all about? Well, every Queensland child or young person aged between 5 and 17 years who’s listed on a Medicare card is eligible to apply for one of these vouchers. Each voucher is worth up to $200 , and it can be used to cover costs like club registration, membership fees, or participation costs in either summer or winter sports . And it’s not just for the usual sports crowd—there’s a dedicated portion of vouchers reserved for children living with a disability , as well as those living in regional and rural parts of the state. That means more inclusivity and more opportunity for every child, no matter where they’re from or what their situation is.
The funding behind this? Pretty substantial. The 2025–26 Queensland Budget has committed $62.5 million each year for four years to support the program. That’s a serious investment in kids’ health, wellbeing, and social development—and a relief for parents who are juggling budgets and trying to keep their children active and engaged.
Queensland’s Minister for Sport and Racing, Tim Mander , who’s also responsible for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, really summed it up when he said it’s crucial for all kids—from the city to the bush—to have every opportunity to participate in sport. These vouchers are helping to do just that.
And let’s be honest—those sports fees can really add up. So, having $200 knocked off the bill can make a big difference, especially for larger families or those doing it tough. Parents are being encouraged to jump on this as soon as possible. Applications opened Monday, August 4 , so now is the time to act.
In a time when we’re all being a bit more mindful of our spending, it's good to see a program that not only eases financial pressure but also promotes healthy, active lifestyles for Queensland kids. It’s a win-win for families and communities alike.
