Raleigh Man Wins $1 Million Lottery Jackpot

A Raleigh man’s routine stop at the grocery store turned into a life-changing moment when he scratched a $10 lottery ticket and revealed a $1 million top prize. Bradley Groseclose said he had to look three times before believing what he was seeing. The winning ticket was purchased at a Food Lion on Eaton Ferry Road in Littleton, and the shock of it all was so overwhelming that the first thing he did was call his wife. Before sharing the news, he asked her to sit down, knowing it was going to be a surprise she wouldn’t expect.

Like many lottery winners, Groseclose was faced with a choice: take the prize as $50,000 a year for 20 years or accept a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum option, and after taxes were withheld, he walked away with $430,503. For him, the timing could not have been better. He explained that the money came at the perfect moment and that his first plan is to renovate his home.

This win comes from the “50X The Cash” game, which launched earlier this year. Out of six $1 million top prizes, two remain unclaimed. Stories like Groseclose’s keep fueling excitement among players, who hope their ticket might be the next lucky one.

But he’s not the only North Carolinian to strike it big recently. Another Raleigh man, John Cafarelli, entered a second-chance drawing with his Mega Millions ticket and emerged with the $100,000 grand prize. He was chosen from over 327,000 entries. Just like Groseclose, he faced tax deductions, which left him with $71,750. Still, it’s a huge win from what would have otherwise been just another losing ticket.

And the luck didn’t stop there. A Moore County woman, Debra Long of Vass, also claimed a $1 million prize this week. She purchased a $10 Jumbo Bucks scratch-off ticket from a Harris Teeter in Aberdeen. Like Groseclose, she opted for the lump sum of $600,000, taking home $430,503 after taxes. The Jumbo Bucks game started last year with eight top prizes of $1 million, and three are still waiting to be claimed.

All of these wins show how unpredictable the lottery can be. A regular grocery run or a ticket scanned into an online account can turn into an unforgettable moment. While winning odds remain slim and taxes reduce the final payout, for the lucky few, the dream of financial relief or a fresh start becomes real. For Groseclose and others, these prizes weren’t just numbers on a ticket—they became opportunities to rebuild, renovate, and reimagine their futures.
