Remembering Priya Marathe: A Fighter Who Left Too Soon
The entertainment industry has been left in shock and sorrow with the untimely passing of actress Priya Marathe. At just 38 years old, she lost her long and painful battle with cancer on August 31, 2025. Known widely for her memorable role as Varsha in the popular TV series Pavitra Rishta , Priya’s death has left her fans, friends, and family grieving deeply.
Her final moments were spent at her home in Mira Road, Mumbai, surrounded by loved ones. Despite undergoing treatment for several years, her condition worsened, and the disease ultimately claimed her life. Actor Subodh Bhave, her cousin and frequent co-star, shared a heartfelt note in which he remembered Priya as much more than an actress. To him, she was first his sister, someone whose resilience and love for her craft inspired everyone around her. In his words, “My sister was a fighter, but finally her strength fell short.”

Priya’s journey in the entertainment world was nothing short of inspiring. Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, she first tried her hand at stand-up comedy before finding her place in television. Her career began with Marathi serials like Ya Sukhano Ya and Char Divas Sasuche . Soon after, her breakthrough role came with Pavitra Rishta , where she starred alongside the late Sushant Singh Rajput. Her portrayal of Varsha left a lasting impact and earned her immense popularity.
She didn’t stop there. Priya went on to shine in Hindi television as well, taking on diverse roles. Audiences loved her performances in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain as Jyoti Malhotra and Saath Nibhaana Saathiya , where she convincingly played a strong negative character, Bhavani Rathod. Back in Marathi television, she gave memorable performances in shows like Tu Tithe Me and Tu Metshi Navane , winning hearts with her versatility.
Beyond her career, Priya’s personal life was filled with love and support. She married actor Shantanu Moghe in 2012, and he stood by her side throughout her illness. Known for his role in Swarajya Rakshak Sambhaji , Shantanu was her strength during the most difficult times, ensuring she never fought her battle alone.
