Roma Caught Between Jadon Sancho and Tyrique George

The transfer window drama has taken another twist, and it now links the futures of Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho and Chelsea’s Tyrique George in a very unexpected way. Roma have been chasing Sancho as their top priority to strengthen their attack, but the deal has proved far more complicated than they first imagined.

Sancho’s high wages, reportedly around £300,000 a week, have been flagged as a huge obstacle for any buying club. On top of that, people close to the negotiations have suggested that Sancho himself isn’t particularly excited about a switch to Serie A. To make things even trickier, United hold an option to extend his contract by an extra year, taking it to 2027, which would give them control over his future even if a loan deal was reached. All of this means that any move for Sancho has become a tangled negotiation involving Roma, Manchester United, and Sancho’s representatives.

And here is where Tyrique George enters the picture. George, a 19-year-old winger at Chelsea, is represented by the same agent as Sancho, Emeka Obasi. Because Sancho’s move to Roma looks stuck, George has suddenly emerged as a serious alternative for the Italian side. Roma believe that a deal around £25 million, with a significant sell-on clause attached, could be enough to tempt Chelsea into selling. Reports in Italy suggest that Chelsea have even indicated they might accept a fee closer to €23 million with 30 percent of any future resale value included.

Unlike Sancho, George is said to be very open to the idea of moving to the Stadio Olimpico. For the teenager, it could mean more playing time and a chance to grow in a new league. Roma, meanwhile, are aware that RB Leipzig are circling too. The German club are expected to have fresh funds available following the sale of Xavi Simons, so time is of the essence if Roma want to secure George’s signature.

What makes this even more interesting is that Sancho and George know each other well. The two played together last season at Chelsea, and they are said to have a good personal relationship off the pitch. Now, their careers might end up shaping each other’s destinies, with Roma forced to choose between persistence for Sancho or a decisive move for George.

At Manchester United, Sancho remains training away from the main squad in what has been described as the “bomb squad” group, while George is with Chelsea’s first team but was left out of the matchday squad for the trip to West Ham. Chelsea, meanwhile, are still busy exploring their own options in the market, with interest in Alejandro Garnacho, Fermin Lopez, and Xavi Simons.

So, Roma’s dilemma is clear: wait on Sancho and risk another dead end, or move quickly for George before Leipzig or anyone else beats them to the deal. In the end, the outcome could shape not just the futures of two wingers but also Roma’s attacking options for the season ahead.
