Tommy Fleetwood’s $10M Win Without Wife Clare Sparks Age Gap Talk
Tommy Fleetwood finally broke through with the biggest win of his career, but one person was noticeably missing from the celebration — his wife, Clare. On Sunday, the English golfer captured his first-ever PGA Tour victory at the Tour Championship in Atlanta, earning a staggering $10 million prize along with the FedEx Cup trophy. The moment was emotional, with Fleetwood surrounded by friends and fellow players on the 18th green. Yet, the absence of Clare, who has been his partner in life and in business, raised questions.
Clare, 57, chose to watch the victory from home rather than join her husband on the course. The couple, married since 2017, has openly discussed the scrutiny around their relationship, particularly their 23-year age gap. Back in 2023, Clare admitted on a podcast that she often felt “paranoid” about the chatter in golf circles, especially in the early days of their romance. She explained that while their bond was strong, outside opinions sometimes weighed heavily on her. “It was never about us,” she said at the time, “but about worrying what others might be thinking.”

Their story began in 2015, when Clare, who worked in golf management and was connected through Fleetwood’s brother, initially resisted the idea of a relationship. “Of course, I turned him down,” she recalled, adding that she thought it would be “stupid” because of their age difference. But as time went on, she couldn’t ignore the connection they shared. Two years later, they were married in the Bahamas and soon welcomed their son, Frankie, who now lives with them in Dubai. Clare also has two older children from a previous marriage.
Interestingly, Clare still plays a major role in Fleetwood’s career. She manages his sponsorships, logistics, PR, and more — essentially keeping his entire professional life running smoothly. Fleetwood himself has joked that she knows “everything on every side,” which can sometimes feel overwhelming for her but also keeps their partnership uniquely strong.
Despite her absence on Sunday, it was clear how much her influence has shaped Fleetwood’s path. After coming close several times this season, including heartbreaking missed chances at the Travelers Championship and St. Jude’s, Fleetwood finally delivered. His closing round of 68 secured a three-shot win, marking not only his first PGA Tour title but also his resilience under pressure. Reflecting afterward, he admitted, “It’s easy to say you’re resilient, but it’s hard when you actually have to be.”
So while the cameras didn’t capture Clare by his side during this milestone, her presence was still felt in the background. Their love story has always been about balancing personal challenges with public perception, and Sunday’s victory was another reminder that, even apart, they remain a team. For Fleetwood, the win was career-defining. For Clare, it was proof that sometimes stepping back doesn’t mean being absent from the journey.
