Tottenham Moves for Savinho as Son Heung-min’s Heir
Tottenham Hotspur has officially begun the search for a successor to Son Heung-min, and their eyes have landed firmly on Brazilian winger Savinho. The news broke through Fabrizio Romano, the well-known European transfer market insider, who revealed that Tottenham had opened negotiations with Manchester City over the player. Talks between the clubs are ongoing, and should a transfer fee be agreed upon, Savinho himself is reportedly open to making the move.
Manager Thomas Frank has made no secret of the fact that the team needs to fill the void left by Son. After a humbling 0–4 defeat to Bayern Munich, he acknowledged Son’s immense contribution over the past decade and admitted that while young talents like Matistel, Wilson O’Dowbert, and Brennan Johnson show promise, a top-quality addition could still be necessary. Savinho, in his view, fits the bill perfectly.

Born in 2004, Savinho developed in Atlético Mineiro’s youth ranks and made his first-team debut at just 16 years old in 2020. Recognizing his raw potential, Manchester City quickly secured his signing. However, rather than placing him straight into their senior squad, City sent him on a development path through loan spells at Troyes, PSV Eindhoven, and most notably, Girona. It was in Spain’s La Liga during the 2023–2024 season that Savinho truly exploded onto the scene, establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous wingers.
Savinho’s primary strengths lie in his blistering pace and his ability to beat defenders one-on-one. While he naturally operates on the right wing, he has proven more than capable of producing strong performances on the left as well. Under Pep Guardiola last season, however, his performances were seen as somewhat mixed—he registered an impressive 13 assists across 48 matches but only scored three goals, raising questions about his finishing and goal-scoring instincts.
Despite those shortcomings, his age and potential make him one of the most exciting prospects in world football. But securing his services will not come cheap. Manchester City values him at around €50 million—approximately 81 billion won—which would place him in the range of Tottenham’s most expensive signings. For comparison, their current record stands at €64.3 million for Dominic Solanke.
The move is being closely watched by fans and analysts alike. Replacing a player as influential as Son Heung-min is no small task, and the pressure will be immense on whoever takes on that role. If Savinho joins Tottenham, the club will be banking on his speed, creativity, and potential to blossom into one of the Premier League’s standout forwards, possibly heralding a new era for Spurs’ attack.
