Tragedy Strikes Minneapolis Catholic School: Two Children Killed, Many Injured
Hey everyone, I want to share some heartbreaking news coming out of Minneapolis this morning. A tragic shooting unfolded at Annunciation Catholic School during a Mass held to mark the first week of school. It’s been described as a deliberate act of violence, and the details are deeply unsettling.
Just before 8:30 a.m., as students from pre-K through eighth grade were gathered in the church, a gunman approached the building from outside. According to police, he fired multiple weapons—a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol—through the church windows, targeting children and worshipers inside. The attack was sudden and terrifying. Tragically, two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed, and at least 17 others were injured, 14 of whom are children. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
The shooter, a man in his early 20s with no extensive criminal history, ended his own life at the scene, and authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Law enforcement, including the FBI, ATF, Homeland Security, and local police, responded swiftly to secure the area and assist victims. Hospitals in the Minneapolis area, including Hennepin Healthcare, have been treating patients ranging in age from 6 to 14, with some requiring surgery.

Witnesses in the neighborhood described hearing what sounded like semi-automatic gunfire, with rounds fired repeatedly over several minutes. Parents and families rushed to the scene, and intense emotions were visible at the reunification area as children were reunited with loved ones. Many were seen hugging tightly, crying, and trying to process the trauma that had unfolded mere feet away.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara called the attack “absolutely incomprehensible” and emphasized the cruelty of targeting innocent children in a place of worship. Mayor Jacob Frey also addressed the public, urging the community to support grieving families and dismissing the notion that thoughts and prayers alone were sufficient, highlighting that the children were literally praying when the violence occurred.
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the shooting and have confirmed no explosives were found at the scene despite earlier reports. The gunman left behind a vehicle that is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
This tragedy has left the community in shock, with parents, neighbors, and school staff grappling with the unimaginable loss and trauma. As updates continue to emerge, the focus remains on caring for the victims, supporting the families, and ensuring that the school and surrounding area are safe.
This is a deeply painful reminder of the vulnerabilities that even our children face in places that should feel safe, and the city of Minneapolis is now rallying around those affected, trying to provide comfort in the wake of an incomprehensible act of violence.
