Tragic Snowboarding Accident Claims Life at Perisher Ski Resort
A tragic accident has occurred at Perisher Ski Resort, one of the largest and most popular ski destinations in the southern hemisphere. On Tuesday afternoon, a 22-year-old man lost his life after a snowboarding crash in the resort’s terrain park.
The incident took place around 2:30 pm in the Front Valley Terrain Park, an area known for its challenging jumps ranging from about 4.6 to 9.1 meters. Emergency services were quickly called to the scene in Perisher Valley, which is situated roughly 30 kilometers west of Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains. Paramedics, including a helicopter crew, rushed to the location and provided urgent medical treatment. Despite their best efforts, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials from NSW Police confirmed that the man had been injured in a crash, and the situation was treated as a serious incident. A report will be prepared and submitted to the coroner as part of the investigation. The police and emergency teams were thorough in their response, but sadly, nothing could be done to save his life.

Perisher Ski Resort’s vice president and general manager, Nathan Butterworth, expressed the resort’s deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the young snowboarder. He also acknowledged the efforts and emotional toll on the Perisher Ski Patrol members who were first responders to the crash. The resort community has been deeply affected by this loss.
The terrain park where the accident happened is known to attract highly skilled skiers and snowboarders who attempt some of the most demanding jumps available at Perisher. A witness at the scene described the jumps as some of the “biggest” in the park, often used by slope-style athletes throughout the winter season.
Perisher itself is a massive resort located within the Kosciuszko National Park. It reopened for the 2025 season in early June and offers over 1,214 hectares of skiable terrain spread across 100 trails and four terrain parks. It remains one of the premier winter sports destinations in the region, attracting thousands of visitors every season.
This heartbreaking event is a solemn reminder of the risks involved in extreme snow sports, even for those experienced in the sport. The community, emergency responders, and the resort are mourning the loss while continuing to focus on safety and support.
