Earlier this afternoon, around 12:42 p.m., the campus was rocked by an active shooter alert. Students and staff received urgent messages warning them of a possible shooter either in the University Center or the Library. The alert carried the familiar, tense guidance: "Run. Hide. Fight."
Immediately, the campus went into lockdown. Students were told to shelter in place while law enforcement rushed to the scene. Police presence quickly became visible everywhere, with officers patrolling campus and securing entrances. Those who were leaving the library reported being met by police with guns drawn, emphasizing that "this is not a drill." Understandably, this caused a lot of fear and confusion among students and staff.
