Vikings’ Rondale Moore Suffers Another Setback with Leg Injury

Rondale Moore’s run of bad luck on the football field has, unfortunately, continued. During the Minnesota Vikings’ preseason matchup against the Houston Texans, Moore’s return to game action was cut short in painful fashion. With just over ten minutes left in the second quarter, he fielded a short punt from Tommy Townsend, managing only a brief two-yard return before being met with a hard tackle along the sideline by Texans linebacker Jamal Hill.

What happened next was a gut-punch for anyone watching. Moore didn’t get up. He remained on the ground, clearly in pain, and the medical staff rushed to his side. After a tense pause, it became clear he wouldn’t be able to walk off the field under his own power. Instead, a cart was brought out. He was helped aboard, unable to put any weight on his left leg. As the cart began to move, Moore slammed it in frustration — an unmistakable display of both pain and emotional fatigue. Teammates came over to offer support, while he pulled a towel over his head, perhaps to hide just how much this moment stung.

The injury is particularly tough considering Moore didn’t play a single snap last season due to a knee injury. In fact, just last August, while still with the Atlanta Falcons, he was carted off the practice field after injuring his right knee during a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins. That setback kept him sidelined for the entire year. This offseason, he signed with Minnesota, looking for a fresh start and a chance to reclaim the dynamic playmaking ability he first flashed early in his career.

Moore was originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Over three seasons in Arizona, he racked up 135 receptions for 1,201 yards and three touchdowns, plus an additional score on the ground. He’s appeared in 39 games with 23 starts, showing flashes of explosive speed and versatility when healthy.

For the Vikings, Moore had been competing for a role as both a punt returner and a depth receiver — a spot that could have been especially valuable given other roster situations early in the season. But with this latest injury, there’s a strong chance that Minnesota will now have to re-evaluate its special teams and wide receiver depth chart.

While no official update on the severity has been provided yet, the optics were not encouraging. For fans, teammates, and coaches alike, it’s a painful reminder that in the NFL, a player’s fortunes can turn in an instant. And for Rondale Moore, it’s another frustrating chapter in a career that has already had far too many detours. Now, it’s a waiting game to see how serious the damage is — and whether this setback will keep him off the field yet again.
