Xolos and Chivas Deliver Dramatic 3-3 Draw in Tijuana
What a night it was at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, where fans witnessed one of the most dramatic matches of this Apertura 2025 so far. The clash between Club Tijuana, better known as Xolos, and the Chivas of Guadalajara had all the ingredients of a classic: intensity, goals, drama, and a finish that left everyone holding their breath.
The game started with a shock for Chivas, as their defense was caught sleeping very early. Just at the 5th minute, Gilberto Mora of Tijuana took advantage of a loose ball inside the box and sent it into the back of the net. That quick strike put the Xolos in control and forced the visiting side to chase the game right from the start.
Things only got tougher for Guadalajara in the second half. At the 51st minute, Frank Boya doubled the lead for Tijuana with a strong finish inside the area. Then, only 13 minutes later, Mora appeared again, this time capitalizing on a series of rebounds to score what looked like the final nail in the coffin. At 3-0, the Xolos were celebrating and their fans were convinced the three points were secured.
But that’s when football showed why it’s called the beautiful game. Despite looking completely out of it, Chivas refused to give up. The first sign of life came at the 73rd minute, when Armando González controlled a perfect pass from Erick Gutiérrez and smashed it into the net to make it 3-1. That goal seemed to spark belief in the visiting side.

Just 10 minutes later, at the 83rd, Efraín Álvarez stepped up with a moment of brilliance. A free kick from long distance was executed perfectly — a curling left-footed shot that soared into the top corner. Suddenly, Chivas were only one goal behind, and the tension in the stadium was palpable.
Then, deep into stoppage time, the final blow was delivered. Roberto Alvarado picked up the ball on the right wing, charged forward, and unleashed a low, powerful strike that nestled into the corner of the net. Against all odds, Chivas had completed the comeback to make it 3-3.
The Xolos, who had dominated much of the match, were left stunned, while Chivas celebrated as if they had won. In fact, Guadalajara even had two late chances to steal the victory outright, but couldn’t find the finishing touch.
When the referee’s whistle blew, the scoreboard showed 3-3, a result that felt like a victory for Chivas and a bitter disappointment for Tijuana. The Xolos had been in control and still let it slip away, while Gabriel Milito’s team showed grit and unity to claw their way back.
With this draw, Tijuana remain in the middle of the table, while Chivas, still struggling this season, will take heart from their fighting spirit as they prepare to face Cruz Azul at home in their next match.
This was more than just a game; it was a reminder that in football, nothing is decided until the very last whistle.
