Zoë Kravitz’s Wild Snake Saga at Taylor Swift’s Mansion
So, picture this — you’re staying at a friend’s house, not just any friend, but Taylor Swift, and not just any house, but her gorgeous 1930s Beverly Hills mansion. That was Zoë Kravitz’s reality earlier this year when Los Angeles wildfires forced her and her mom, Lisa Bonet, to evacuate. Taylor had generously offered them refuge, and they ended up staying for about two weeks. Along with them came Lisa’s pet snake, Orpheus. And that’s where things took a turn.
Zoë, determined to be the perfect houseguest, wanted to leave the place even better than she found it. On her last day, she was tidying up downstairs when her phone rang. It was her mom — voice unusually high — saying she was “in a little bit of a pickle.” Zoë rushed upstairs, only to find her mom crouched in a bathroom corner, holding onto Orpheus’s tail. The snake had discovered a small hole in the wall, right next to a built-in banquette.
Now, snakes are pure muscle and very determined, so as Lisa held on, Orpheus kept wriggling deeper into the wall. Zoë started panicking, imagining two scenarios — either destroy part of Taylor Swift’s immaculate bathroom or tell her there was now a snake loose somewhere in the house. Neither sounded like a winning option.
They called in Taylor’s house manager, who arrived armed with a crowbar. What followed was pure chaos: tiles ripped up, walls scratched, and the banquette practically dismantled. The whole scene, Zoë said, felt like a suspense movie — only the monster was her mom’s slithery pet. Eventually, they managed to rescue Orpheus, but not without leaving Taylor’s bathroom looking like a mini demolition site.

Zoë immediately offered to cover all the repairs and even asked the manager not to tell Taylor until everything was fixed. But when she finally called Taylor, trying to break the news gently, Taylor cut her off — she already knew about the snake fiasco. In true Taylor fashion, she took it in stride, even jokingly hinting that the ordeal could inspire a few songs.
The incident was just another chapter in Zoë and Taylor’s close friendship. Over the years, they’ve been spotted at dinners, concerts, and even worked together — Zoë co-wrote songs like “Karma” and “Lavender Haze” on Taylor’s Midnights album. Taylor also publicly praised Zoë’s directorial debut, Blink Twice . And while the pop star’s next album, The Life of a Showgirl , probably won’t feature Orpheus, this hilarious — and mildly destructive — snake saga is sure to remain a legendary inside joke between the two friends.
