Brighton’s owner Tony Bloom put out a statement saying that while David has served the club very well, the time has come to refresh their technical area with new leadership and direction. That’s club-speak for wanting a shake-up at the top, and Bloom also made sure to thank Weir for his contribution. Chief executive Paul Barber echoed those sentiments, adding that he had personally enjoyed working with him for eight years. Until a permanent replacement is found, Barber will keep an eye on the technical operations himself.

Ayto played a key role in several major transfer deals during his time in North London, including being heavily involved in Arsenal’s pursuit of Martin Zubimendi.
