Browns Sign Rookie RB Quinshon Judkins Amid Off-Field Questions
The Cleveland Browns have officially locked in their second-round pick, running back Quinshon Judkins, to a four-year rookie deal worth $11.4 million, fully guaranteed. This signing means all of the Browns’ 2025 draft class is now under contract. But while that box has been checked, Judkins’ immediate future on the field remains uncertain.
Judkins, who was drafted 36th overall after helping Ohio State win a national championship in 2024, is not expected to suit up for the Browns’ season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Instead, his start to the NFL season will be delayed as both team and league matters continue to unfold.

The delay stems in part from legal trouble earlier this summer. On July 12, Judkins was arrested and charged with battery/domestic violence in Florida. However, prosecutors later decided not to move forward with charges, citing several factors that made a conviction unlikely. While the criminal case has been closed, the NFL’s own investigation under its personal conduct policy is still ongoing. That means potential discipline from the league could still be in play, regardless of the lack of formal charges.
To help manage his transition, the Browns are expected to receive a temporary roster exemption for Judkins. This is a routine step for players who missed training camp, and it will allow him to practice with the team and start learning the system without immediately counting against the roster limit. In other words, he can begin catching up on the playbook and getting reps with his new teammates while the organization works through the details of when he might debut.
On the field, Judkins arrives with plenty of promise. In his lone season at Ohio State, the 21-year-old rushed for over 1,000 yards and played a key role in the Buckeyes’ championship run. His performance was one of the reasons Cleveland felt confident investing an early second-round pick in him. Now, the franchise is hoping his collegiate success will translate into a productive NFL career once he’s fully integrated into the lineup.
For now, patience will be the theme. The Browns know they have a talented young back under contract, but they also understand the importance of letting him get settled both on and off the field. Fans may have to wait a bit longer to see Judkins make his NFL debut, but the signing at least ensures that Cleveland’s investment is secured, and the rookie’s journey with the team can officially begin.
